Actor of the Week Week 1

This weeks Under Appreciated Actor of the Week is Dwight Schultz.  While he is well known for his non-science-fiction role of H.M. Murdock in A-Team, his science fiction roles are not as frequently remembered.

H.M. Murdock-The A-Team

Perhaps his most well known role in a science fiction series is that of Lt. Reginald Barclay in Star Trek: The Next Generation.  He later reprised the role in Star Trek: Voyager.  Barclay is an anxiety-ridden character who quickly grows on viewers due to his shy nature.  His skills as an engineer are unfortunately often overshadowed by his use as comic relief.  He most frequently appears in episodes involving the holodeck.

After the end of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, Dwight Schultz's science fiction career continued with a guest spot in an episode of Stargate SG-1.  His character, The Gamekeeper, held his people within a simulation inside their minds in order to keep them from harming their planet, which they had ruined quite a few years prior.  SG-1 ended up in the simulation as well, leading to The Gamekeepers people being brought out of their minds and back onto their planet.  This lead The Gamekeeper to have somewhat of an anxiety attack over his people "ruining his planet" by acts as simple as picking flowers.

Dwight Schultz is now 62 years old, and continues to enjoy quite a successful career, though much of his recent work has been voice roles for cartoons and video games.  He also had a cameo in the 2010 movie remake of The A-Team.  Another point of interest was a reference to Lt. Reginald Barclay within the movie's context in tribute to him.
